At Kedron Lions, we like to do things a little differently! One thing you will notice is that our focus is on all girls feeling part of not only their team, but also their club. There are lots of fun whole-club activities through the season, like our energetic Zumba night, and we encourage your participation in these events which all help to build club unity.
The first step in the team allocation process is Grading. Our club undertakes three different levels of grading:
– Paper Grading, which is conducted by the team coach at the end of the previous season;
– Active Grading, which is conducted by a club-appointed official during ordinary game play, towards the end of the previous season (these first two types of grading are not relevant for players new to the club); and
– Grading Day, which is COMPULSORY for all players, and is the only opportunity for a new player’s ability to be assessed for the purposes of ensuring appropriate team allocation.
If a player is for some significant reason unable to attend their relevant Grading Day, this must be communicated via email to email@example.com ASAP.
Further details about the Kedron Lions Grading Policy can be found on the website.
Players are to arrive at least 15 minutes before their grading session. On arrival, players need to report to the registration desk which is at the BNA Clubhouse (or on Court 13 for the grading being held on Sunday 23 February). Players will be allocated a number (marked in pen on their leg) and have their photograph taken. This photograph will be used for the selectors’ later reference only, during the team allocation process. Players need to bring a water bottle and snack. They will be required to stay for the whole duration of the session.
All new junior players (Under 10s, 11s and 12s) joining Kedron Lions are required to provide a copy of their birth certificate, either via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by handing it in on grading day.
All uniforms must be ordered no later than Monday 24 February to ensure they are ready for distribution prior to the start of the season.
Display uniforms will be available at the Grading Days for determining the correct size. Uniform orders may be placed directly at Grading Day, or online. Kedron Lions uniform consists of the Kedron Lions dress AND royal blue bike shorts. Other colours are not acceptable. The team can be penalised by way of points deduction from their season’s points tally for any infringement of the club’s uniform code, so it is important that it is strictly adhered to.
Club hair ribbons (not compulsory) are available for $3.50 each or 3 for $9.00 and will be on sale Grading Day (cash payments only please).
Kedron Lions socks (not compulsory) are available for $8 per pair, and can be ordered on Grading Day.
Teams are re-allocated every season. There is no guarantee that players will continue in a team with players from the previous season, however due to our club community focus, players will often already be familiar with new teammates anyway. Team allocations will be listed on the website on Thursday 6 March.
Teams are determined on the basis of similar levels of playing ability, balanced with a spread of position strengths* and team numbers. Occasionally, a player may be placed in a team which is overall slightly higher or lower than their graded ability level, purely as a matter of logistical necessity, but every effort is made to ensure that players are placed in a team which is appropriate to their skill level.
*Note that in the Under 10s teams, players are to be rotated sufficiently to experience all playing positions. In the Under 11s and Under 12s teams, although players may be showing strengths in certain positions, there will still be some level of rotation.
All junior teams (Under 10s, 11s and 12s) train together on Wednesday nights from 5.15pm to 7.00pm. In addition to reinforcing the club community, this also allows players to split off occasionally for specific drills related to positional play – eg a group of shooters from different teams may work together on shooting drills, while a group of players from various teams who are having difficulty with the stepping rule, may work together on stepping. It also means that girls have an opportunity to meet and train with other girls from their club, and to catch up with friends who are in other teams.
This year, a number of Divisional teams (Under 13s and up) will also be training together on Wednesday nights, from 7pm to 8.30pm. Individual coaches will advise the Divisional players whether they will be holding Wednesday night training or if it is to be on another night.
Every Kedron Lions team must have a team manager. Marcy Guerreri is the coordinator of the team managers and will be holding a meeting for all team managers on Monday 10 March, at 6.30pm at CHERMSIDE BOWLS CLUB (next door to BNA courts). Team coaches will be contacting parents to appoint team managers in the days prior to the meeting.
Full payment of fees were due 14 February. Any player whose fees remain outstanding as at 21 February, without prior arrangements having been made, will not be allocated to a team unless and until full fees are received.
